On The Urban Debate with Faye D'Souza tonight, 156 children in Bihar's Muzaffarpur have died due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) in the last few weeks. Anywhere else in the world, the death of 156 children would bring international shock and outrage and it would have been declared a National health emergency. It would have been the sole focus of the country's government machinery and all resources from across the country would have been deployed and war rooms would have been set up to contain the spread of the disease and arrest the death toll. But PM Narendra Modi chaired an all-party meet, and 21 politicians including Bihar CM Nitish Kumar attended this meeting but the death of 156 children was not on the agenda and it wasn't even discussed. No political party or leader has taken any responsibility towards making the situation better. Who is to be held responsible for the loss of innocent lives in Bihar? Is this a mockery of the life of children in the state? What happened to Nitish Kumar's promise to prioritise healthcare? Did Nitish Government ignore CAG report on dismal healthcare in Bihar? Listen in!
